Remembering Nipsey Hussle and Tackling Life on "Deep Reverence"
The first single for Big Sean’s highly anticipated album ‘Detroit 2’ is “Deep Reverence” featuring the late Nipsey Hussle. “Deep Reverence” produced by Hit-Boy and G-RY was initially teased by Hit-Boy back in March during a Verzuz battle with Boi-1da.
Nipsey opens the track in a way that only he could by declaring,
“Look, f*** rap, I’m a street legend
Block love me with a deep reverence”
Hearing Nipsey’s voice posthumously gives me chills and it’s so surreal because there was so much more that Nipsey had left to share. In an Instagram post dedicated to Nipsey and the release of “Deep Reverence”, Hit-Boy wrote,
“When I listen to your verse on “Deep Reverence” with our brother Big Sean it’s a bitter sweet thing cuz you went crzyyyyy but it also let me know how much more work we had to do. 8am FaceTimes. Texting samples and ideas back n forth everyday....”
Big Sean contemplates his experiences and how he’s maneuvered through them despite not having any clear path to success on the new single.
“Despite the hit songs that there’s just no escaping
That I take care of my family and beat the odds that were deadly
You hate that? That just reflects your lack of succession”
‘Detroit 2’ will arrive Sept. 4. In the meantime listen to “Deep Reverence” below and get it now.
