Self Care Sunday Featuring Podcasts!!!

This week on Kickin’ it with Kay, I would like to share a form of Self Care that I have recently added to my daily/weekly regimen. I have become invested in making it a point to begin as many days as I can by listening to Podcasts! I find that when I am able to begin my day with a podcast, I am able to control my energy for the start of my day. As well as slowly initiate and prepare myself for daily interactions with others. In addition, I also love that I am actively learning, laughing, and appreciating the perspectives of different people. You will also find that the majority of these podcasts share the common theme of being unfiltered which makes them easier to relate to as well as providing a no-judgement zone.

Here is a list of podcasts that you can also enjoy yourself.

Therapy for Black Girls is a podcast by Joy Harden Bradford, Ph.D. This Podcast releases on a weekly basis and tackles topics concerning personal development, mental health, and self improvement. Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, serves as a great introduction as to how therapy sessions operate. As well as, the importance of black girls finding the right therapist and that being a black woman. S/o to all the current and aspiring black psychologists!

Guys Next Door is a podcast that launched early this year, by Mack Wilds, Mouse Jones, and Flyry. This podcast is refreshing, wild, and hilarious. Together, these three black men offer humorous and unfiltered opinions on a range of topics. Thus far, Guys Next Door has spoken about physical and mental health, black love, and sex. Although, this is a podcast hosted by men it can still be enjoyed by women as it provides an introspective look into how men think and process their experiences. Furthermore, Mouse Jones naturally has taken on the position as the wild card; as listeners will never know what outlandish statement he’ll say next. These men are exceptional because they are so brazen and always open to sharing their experiences without inhibitions.

Guys Next Door is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and PodBean.

Jesus & Jollof is a podcast hosted by Luvvie Ajayi and Yvonne Orji. These two Nigerian women are literally Yin & Yang. From the foolish goat antics and heartfelt accounts on the Nigerian experience, audiences are able to feel a sense of home and comfortability. As a fellow Nigerian, l can say that Jesus & Jollof is authentic to the Nigerian household experience. These ladies provide an endless supply of laughs, while teaching listeners various life lessons on how to do better and be better. As well as the importance of taking accountability for ones’s actions and the way we interact. Listening to Jesus & Jollof is like listening to two sisters lovingly insult one another, while also building each other up. Which speaks to one of the many ways Nigerians communicate with one another. It is also insightful to hear how they handle new endeavors in their personal lives with things like investing and home ownership! Just last night, these ladies sold out the Apollo Theater for a live show of Jesus & Jollof, so if that doesn’t tell you to Subscribe to their Podcast now then you are sadly missing out on your blessing!

Jesus & Jollof is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and PodBean.

Rants and Randomness is another podcast hosted by Luvvie Ajayi. Honestly, I was able to find this podcast through listening to the Jesus & Jollof podcast. Since then, I have truly become a fan of Luvvie because she is constistently dropping gems and her personality is just dope. I love that Luvvie is unfiltered and says whatever comes to mind. On this podcast, Luvvie also brings in special guests that are able to enlighten listeners about their respective journeys on their career paths. Another reason why I appreciate Luvvie’s podcasts are that she will often recommend other Black businesses that her audiences can become consumers of. It’s this type of comradery and support that truly speaks to her character and being a “loving spirit”.

Rants and Randomness is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and PodBean.

Small Doses with Amanda Seales is a podcast that launched in January of 2018. Amanda Seales is blunt and blatantly candid with her truths. While also letting audiences know what they NEED to hear, but with love & positivity. The same way in which a mother, aunty, or big sis would, which is crucial in a society that is so social media focused and filtered. I truly appreciate Amanda Seales’ podcast because she exhibits rational thinking and the significance of processing before you speak. Self awareness is so essential! Now a days, a lot of people are rushing to be heard, and when that happens… often times what they’re saying is not conducive to the topic at hand. Due to the fact that they don’t take the time to research, process, and really hear what has been said. Therefore, Small Doses with Amanda Seales is a must listen!

Small Doses with Amanda Seales is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and PodBean.
